There is a very unusual place in a picturesque corner of the Carpathian Nature Reserve, which impresses with its unspoiled nature, on the slope of the Turkul peak. We are talking about Lake Nesamove, which the Hutsuls also call the “mountain eye”. It is located in a pit that was formed by a glacier several thousand years ago. The area near the reservoir impresses with its contrasts and natural colors. We should also mention the ridges, which are inaccessible rocks and divide the beautiful valley into several parts, as well as the green carpet with delicate flowers. The location will acquaint each guest with steep gorges, delight with cold mirror water from the stream, and enchant with grandeur and beauty.

Description of Lake Nesamovite

The reservoir got its unusual name due to its special character and irrepressible nature. Nesamovyte (Frenzied) is almost never calm, even at times when there is absolute silence around. Many tourists note that the lake from a bird's eye view really looks more like a big eye that seems to be watching what is happening around it. This is probably why it never “falls asleep”. This mysterious miracle attracts huge crowds of tourists like a magnet. Unfortunately, this high popularity causes serious damage to the lake, as it gradually becomes overgrown not only with grass, but also with the garbage left by tourists.

Characteristics of Lake Nesamovite

The lake is accessed by a narrow path that leads far up to an altitude of 1750 meters. The mystical location stretches 88 meters long and 45 meters wide, and it is covered with numerous huge boulders. The depth of the alpine reservoir is on average just over one meter, which allows it to warm up to a temperature of 20 degrees in the warm season. It should be noted that about 4 thousand square meters of the lake's water area is a natural accumulation of annual precipitation. It is important to add that the water in Nesamovyty is fresh.

Interesting facts

The Hutsuls, who live in the mountains, consider the reservoir to be the place of “hail birth”. There is a logical explanation for this. Natural phenomena near the lake occur quite often and usually suddenly. Locals say that it is the souls of criminals, drowned people, and suicides that make themselves felt. Therefore, you should not throw stones and other objects into the lake, as a rider on a horse can jump out of the water, under whose hooves the rock crumbles, turning into ice, which is dangerous for humans. However, if this does happen, evil souls will capture it, put it in bags, and release it in the form of black clouds over the mountains along with hail.

Hutsuls also rarely bathe in Nesamovyty. The explanation for this is very simple: they believe that the dead dance around the lake and can drag a person to the bottom. The only salvation from evil spirits is the sonorous singing of the trembita. Rumor has it that people used to soak wood in the pond to make this unusual and pleasant musical instrument. There is also a legend that unmarried tourists who come to the lake find their beloved within the next year.

It is better not to go to the lake in a thunderstorm. The fact is that it is located on the ridge of a mountain, from which the wind can literally knock you down, while rain or hail can come down from the sky in a wall, which makes it difficult to walk along the winding paths and you can simply fall down. Sometimes, in the heat of the day, a hurricane suddenly appears, and seeing it involuntarily brings to mind various legends associated with the Furious. A number of Hutsuls say that a young girl once drowned in the pond, and she really doesn't like it when someone enters the water and creates “disturbances” on its surface. That's why she sends bad weather to uninvited guests.

An interesting fact is that no rivers flow into the lake. It is actually fed by groundwater, snow, and rain. Nearby you can find several streams from which you can drink crystal clear water. It is very beautiful near the reservoir from late April to mid-May, when crocuses begin to bloom, the grass turns green, and the mountain tops continue to shine with snow. It should be added that the lake has an unusual shape, more reminiscent of Antarctica in its contours. Today, Nesamove is located on the border of Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia regions.
